The Farm

Our 100-acre working farm consists of pasture, meadow, and woods. The farm overlooks the beautiful Bras d’Or Lake Biosphere, a UNESCO Biosphere Region. Farming as earth-friendly as possible, we raise animals, grow some of our own food, sell locally, compost & recycle, and we avoid the use of commercial pesticides and herbicides. At Seaweed and Sod Farm we recognize the importance of addressing our environmental impact. We’re reducing our carbon footprint and supporting the renewable energy transition by partnering with Bullfrog Power. We bullfrogpower our Bed and Breakfast and our livestock facilities with green electricity.

Explore Cape Breton

Cape Breton is famed for its beautiful scenery - but more than that, we are rich in culture and experiences. Our residents welcome visitors like family, and Seaweed and Sod is deep in the heart of the surrounding communities. Exploring these communities will give you a full understanding of why Cape Breton has been named both "#1 island in Canada" and "#8 Island in the World".

Your Hosts (Terri & Dave)

In July 2009, we came to Cape Breton for a short vacation. Dave immediately set to work figuring out how to pack up his family farm in Ontario to set roots in Nova Scotia. By October of that same year, all our belongings, equipment, and livestock were packed in trucks and being driven 2000km across the country to Cape Breton. Between running a bed and breakfast, tending the farm, and actively organizing community events (to which you’re invited!), we still find time to indulge our love of exploring Cape Breton and finding all the greatest spots to pass on to our guests.

Loved that it was a working farm setting. Place was immaculate and well-appointed. Hosts well organized but casual and fun.
